Preparations are progressing well for the 65th Liffey Descent, which will take place on Saturday 19 September 2026, marking another edition of this iconic event.
Canoeing Ireland continues to monitor recent weather and river conditions and is liaising closely with the ESB regarding the race conditions. Work is also continuing across the wider race environment to ensure the best possible experience for participants and spectators.
The Liffey Descent is renowned for the challenge of the race, the history and the unique atmosphere, and this 65th anniversary year provides a special opportunity for the paddling community to come together and celebrate the event.
Recent conditions also highlight the wider environmental challenges facing waterways in Ireland and globally. We would like to remind out members that we all have a role to play in protecting the natural environments on which events like the Liffey Descent depend.
Canoeing Ireland looks forward to welcoming everyone to this year’s race and will provide regular updates in the lead-up.
Members and stakeholders are strongly reminded to take race information only from official Canoeing Ireland channels. Regular race updates will be issued through these channels in the lead-up to the event.
